Smartphone-based system could accelerate development of driverless cars

Teaching machines to see_popup

Researchers from the Cambridge University are developing a technology that is going to help the machines to recognize the locations as well as the surroundings very well. These systems in the future will be used for the driver less cars and transports. It can easily detects a user’s location and using GPS reaches it along with having some road sense too in the real time camera capture of the smartphone.

The first system, called SegNet, can take an image of a street scene it hasn’t seen before and classify it, sorting objects into 12 different categories – such as roads, street signs, pedestrians, buildings and cyclists – in real time. It will be able to deal with the shadow as well and has 90 percent more clarity relative to the pixels.
