As India is moving to Euro 5 ans Euro 6 emission norms set for next two to eight years , the diesel cars and SUV will be becoming more and more expensive. According to the industry, this will require investment in newer technologies like DPF diesel particle filter and SCR selective Catalytic Reduction to make it up to the emission norms which will definitely require a huge investment in the auto sector research.  Thus it could see a mark up in its price from 65,000 to 1 lakh in diesel and SUV cars, whereas petrol engines does not require much technology perks thus they will only get up by Rs. 7000 and 11,000 maximum.

Currently diesel engines uses BS5 and now these engines will require to calibrate and install DPF. this will cost up to rs 30,000 to 50,000 for end customers.  Technical head of the car maker said that ” Engine modification and some other technologies that will be added up to the cars will make it too costly once euro 6 is started on grounds from 2017 onwards.”
