New Industrial Raspberry Pi Edge Serverand Ready-to-Deploy Controller Delivering Enhanced Reliability, Real-Time Supervision, and Robust Connectivity for Industrial IoT and Edge Applications

Sfera Labs, a leader in open-source industrial automation, is proud to announce the launch of two high-reliability platforms: the Strato Pi Plus and the Iono Pi v3. Built around the Raspberry Pi 4 or 5, these solutions transform the versatility of open-source computing into rugged, industrial-grade systems for automation, field communications, and IoT edge applications requiring continuous, unattended operation.

Strato Pi Plus: Industrial Raspberry Pi Edge Server with Up to Four RS-485 and CAN FD Interfaces

At the heart of the Strato Pi Plus is a hybrid architecture that pairs the Raspberry Pi with a Raspberry Pi RP2354 microcontroller. The RP2354 operates independently from the main processor, handling critical real-time functions and system supervision—including a fully independent hardware watchdog—ensuring that the system can detect and recover from faults without external intervention. The RP2354 firmware supports over-the-air (OTA) updates directly from the Raspberry Pi, allowing in-field upgrades without physical access to the device.

The platform provides extensive industrial serial connectivity, with up to four individually opto-isolated RS-485 interfaces featuring electrostatic discharge protection and configurable line termination and A/B lines inversion, alongside a CAN V2.0B and CAN FD interface supporting speeds up to 8 Mb/s with opto-isolation and ESD protection. This makes the Strato Pi Plus particularly suited for applications that require communication with multiple field devices, sensors, and actuators over long cable runs—such as industrial process control, building management, energy metering, and vehicle or machinery integration.

Housed in a compact 4-module DIN-rail enclosure with pluggable screw terminal blocks for power, I/O, and serial connections, the Strato Pi Plus features a wide-range 10÷50 V DC power supply with surge and reverse polarity protection and a 3.3A resettable fuse. A relay output rated for 1A at 48 VDC with both normally-open and normally-closed contacts is also included for local switching tasks.

Designed for 24/7 operation in demanding environments, the Strato Pi Plus integrates a highly accurate real-time clock (RTC) with temperature-compensated oscillator and replaceable backup battery, and an embedded Microchip ATECC608 secure element for hardware-based authentication and cryptographic key storage. The embedded Raspberry Pi provides full connectivity including Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth/BLE, four USB ports, Micro HDMI video output, and a microSD card slot. An optional pre-assembled active cooling fan is available for thermally demanding installations.

With the Strato Pi Plus, Sfera Labs delivers a new class of industrial edge server that combines the openness and versatility of a Raspberry Pi with the reliability, real-time supervision, and industrial connectivity required for resilient field deployments in automation, communications, and IoT.

Iono Pi v3: Compact and Powerful Industrial PLC

Housed in a compact 4-module DIN-rail enclosure with screw terminal block connections, the Iono Pi v3 integrates a wide-range 9÷28 V DC power supply with surge and reverse polarity protection, four power relay outputs rated for 5A at 250V, high-resolution analog voltage and current inputs, seven configurable GPIO pins with 1-Wire and Wiegand support, and secure hardware features—all in a package that fits directly onto a standard DIN rail.

The Iono Pi v3 is designed for engineers and system integrators who need to deploy reliable Linux-based control and data acquisition systems quickly, using standard industrial setups and open software tools. Typical applications include industrial automation, building management, energy monitoring, access control, environmental sensing, and edge computing—anywhere a compact, rugged controller with real-world I/O and network connectivity is required.

Built for continuous, unattended operation, the Iono Pi v3 includes a highly accurate real-time clock (RTC) with temperature-compensated oscillator and replaceable backup battery, a hardware watchdog fully independent from the Raspberry Pi board, and an embedded Microchip ATECC608 secure element for hardware-based authentication and cryptographic key storage. An optional pre-assembled active cooling fan (SPBF10X Strato Pi Fan) is available for applications with demanding thermal requirements.

The embedded Raspberry Pi provides full connectivity including Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth/BLE, four USB ports, two Micro HDMI outputs, and a microSD card slot, enabling seamless integration with cloud platforms, industrial protocols, and a wide range of Linux-based software tools and frameworks.

With the Iono Pi v3, Sfera Labs continues to expand its portfolio of industrial controllers built on open-source technology, giving professionals a powerful, flexible, and secure platform for deploying resilient industrial, IoT, and edge computing solutions in the most demanding environments.
