Interviewee:  Adhik Mewada,Founder,Smowcode

Question 1.)  Tell us the story behind Smowcode — what inspired its creation and the problem it set out to solve ?

Ans:   In 2019, I was working for a company as an Embedded Systems Developer. My boss would come to my desk and just give a logic diagram on a sheet of paper and leave. Either a flowchart or a series of todos. Now I have to sit and write 1000s of lines of code for 2-3 weeks to write the logic in C language.
I thought, what if there was a coding language for microcontrollers which would only take a logic diagram or a prompt, and create industry grade and performant code? That would be awesome!
In 2019, I joined engineering degree and started Smowcode. Today, we’ve realised our technology successfully and are serving more than 3000+ users.

Question 2.)  What differentiates your company from other players in the market ?

Ans:   Other companies in graphical coding are either into PLCs and not into microcontrollers. Or they are into microcontrollers but for kids. We are the only one who cares about developer’s productivity while being industry grade for optimised and performant firmware development.

Question 3.)   As a Start Up, what were the major hurdles you faced in the initial stages, and what steps did you take to address them ?

Ans:  First, finding a cofounder. I couldnt find any at the age of 20 but I didnt stop and built a team of expert coders who became my interns and got the software made.
Second, fund raising in India is tough. Especially at an early stage where you are pre-revenue. I went to Incubators, accelerators and deeply technical folks of the industry for the fundraise and solved this.

Question 4.)  Looking ahead, what’s the next big technical milestone for Smowcode ?

Ans:  We are planning to add more and more MCU support on Smowcode along with deeper user experience features via a stronger IDE and a stronger AI.
