Philips brand power supplies and LED light sources

500x1000 Landing strona

Philips has been engaged in the LED revolution from the beginning, which has forever changed the lighting industry. Today, products from this renowned brand are among the most durable and efficient solutions available on the market. Many of them can be purchased directly from TME warehouses.

Below we present our offer of Philips products for the lighting industry. These include both small power supplies used in mixed interior illumination, and LED modules designed for lighting streets or city parks. This range will therefore interest not only electricians and consumers, but also entrepreneurs looking for the highest quality LED components: strips, modules, drivers, and digitally controlled high-power controllers.

In this article, we cover topics such as:

  • Diverse functions of LED drivers
  • Universal Xitanium lighting power supplies
  • Overview of other Philips LED drivers
  • Classification of semiconductor light sources
  • Standard of lighting LED strips
  • Strips for making street lamps and related products
  • Construction, application, and parameters of COB modules

LED Drivers

The Philips lighting range is divided into two branches: power supplies and light sources. Let’s first look at the former, the drivers. Many of them, in addition to providing stable DC voltage, also offer additional controller functionality, making the illumination operate more smoothly, e.g., by gradually dimming/brightening LED lamps instead of turning them off abruptly.

Xitanium Series

Xitanium is actually a whole family of products prepared by Philips with downlight type fixtures and spotlights in mind. It is a diverse offer of impulse power supplies – both in terms of power (from 16W to 300W), and dimensions. Compact versions are available for direct mounting in the fixture, as well as those designed for mounting outside the light source.

The main advantages of the Xitanium series are longevity, operating at very low voltage (SELV, i.e., Safety Extra-Low Voltage) and the possibility of adjustment using SimpleSet software. Additionally, they have diverse control capabilities: through DALI and DALI-2 (D4i) interfaces or voltage signal. These drivers operate in constant current mode with an adjustable output value and have short-circuit and overload protection. At the same time: their connection is very simple, almost all models use spring terminals (in others: wires), and they are powered by standard network voltage (220…240V AC).

It is worth noting that Philips devices are offered in a constant voltage version intended for powering LED strips and strips with 24V DC and constant current intended for powering high-power LEDs in the current range from 70mA to 1.4A. In such models, the output voltage will be within the range from 5V to 375V DC. This covers practically the entire range of typical applications in residential, commercial, production halls, warehouses, or offices. These are power supplies designed for indoor mounting and use, exhibiting an IP20 protection class.

Other drivers

From the TME catalog, other Philips LED drivers are also available, such as CertaDrive system drivers designed for the manufacturer’s CertaFlux line of LEDs, or transformer power supplies for 24-volt installations (constant voltage, up to 300W).

LED Power Driver

Overall, the offer of LED drivers from Philips available from TME consists of several hundred products with diverse parameters and characteristics. The general characteristics of this assortment are as follows:

  • impulse and transformer versions;
  • operating mode constant voltage and constant current;
  • powers reaching 300W;
  • output currents up to 12.5A;
  • possibility of collective setting using SimpleSet program;
  • control using voltage signals;
  • compatibility with digital interfaces (DALI);
  • variants with protection class IP66 and IP67;
  • powered by DC and AC currents (directly from the network).

LED Light Sources

The assortment of LED light sources clearly branches into three categories: LED strips, LED strips, and high-power LEDs. The characteristics and applications of the products in each of these groups are different – therefore, they are presented below as separate offers, although all remain compatible with many of the power supplies presented above and can be combined in various configurations to jointly create lighting arrangements for interiors (and not only).

LED Strips

Strips are one of the most popular sources of LED light – mainly because of their standardization and the ease with which they can be adapted to various applications. All Philips LED strips are made for 24V DC voltages. They come in widths of 8mm, 10mm, and 12mm, divided into sections of 50mm or 100mm. They emit white light with a color temperature from warm (2700K), through neutral (4000K), to cold (6500K). Selected models are highly sealed (IP67), allowing them to be used in outdoor lighting, industrial interiors, and other spaces with challenging environmental conditions. The offer includes strips with an efficiency from 83lm/W to 152lm/W at a maximum power from 3.5W/m to 22.5W/m.

Each Philips LED strip is a module adapted for building lamps.

LED strips are modules characterized by high intensity of emitted light. They are designed as elements ultimately used for the production of outdoor lamps, street lighting, urban (parks, stadiums, architecture), infrastructure (tunnels) and similar purposes. Thanks to their high efficiency (even 203lm/W), they allow significant cost savings associated with maintaining public spaces and illuminating large objects. They are made in accordance with the standards of the Zhaga consortium, an international body comprising over 600 manufacturers and dealing with the establishment of standards for LED lighting.From the TME catalog, Philips LED strips are available from 6.3W to 33.8W, offering brightness up to 6128lm. A single module contains from 8 to 128 diode components. The nominal operating current of LED strips ranges from 148mA to 530mA (depending on the model). Customers can choose from versions with different color temperatures (from 2200K to 4000K).

High-Power LED Modules

Similar to LED strips, high-power LED modules are elements used in the construction of lighting devices – in their case, the end product will rather be spot lamps, as well as interior lighting. Such LED diodes are made in COB technology (Chip on Board) involving the placement of semiconductor structures directly on the substrate. This allows for denser surface construction, greater light intensity, and lower element profile. On this occasion, it is worth noting that the products are made in international formats, which facilitates their integration into new and existing projects. The presented COB modules come in housings 1205, 1208, 1210, 1211.

High-power LEDs from Philips belong to the Fortimo SLM series, whose significant advantage is the high color rendering index (even 92), allowing for the realization of professional lighting (photography, film, art galleries).

The parameters of the presented LEDs are also in line with many adopted standards (not only those codified). The nominal operating current of high-power LEDs ranges from 500mA to 1200mA (there are differences between models). The maximum brightness is from 1836lm to 7293lm (typically lower) at powers from 17.2W to 41.6W.
