Recently a new study under the next generation electronics has an ultra sensitive medical diagnosis that will be helping the atomic scale cracks or commonly known as the nanogaps . This is led by the Professor of Royal Institute of Technology that has developed the method to take way out for [production of nanogaps in the electrodes.  In this case which they are studying they have been developing methods to create nano gaps in the materials where they are using titanium nitrite TiN , under their research they say they are not required to make any patterns for the nanogaps rather they occur by themselves once they achieve  the desired criteria.

Dubois says that this enables one to determine at the outset what the parameters of the nanogaps will be, from 100 nm down to below 2 nm (less than ten atom layers) wide.
